Suppose the present age of the mother = Fyears
∴ Present age of person
\frac{2}{5}F years
8 years hence
\left ( \frac{2}{5}F+8 \right )=\frac{(F+8)}{2}
or,  2\frac{(2F+40)}{5}=F+8
4x + 80 = 5x + 40
5x - 40 = 80 - 40
∴F = 40 years

Suppose the present age of younger daughter is F years.
∴ Present age of the elder daughter
= F + 5 years.
Present age of the father
= 3 (F + 5) years.
According to the question,
8 (F - 5) = 3F + 15 - 5
8F - 40 = 3F + 10
8F - 3F = 10 + 40
F= 50/5 = 10 years
Present age of father
= 3 × (10 + 5)
= 45 years
